OSHOTO
His maternal lineage is weaved together like a Celtic Knot and his roots run deep as the Ogham Tree.
Here’s a bit of his-story.
He comes from the Gail’s and the Lady Dew’s, 2 cow families known long and held dearly by us. His great great grandmother’s on both sides were our very favorite females and I’ll never forget falling in love with his 3x great grandmother, Saddle Valley Ladysport 120J when I layed over at NJW while hauling out to Jr Nationals 20+ years ago.
Over the years I had the tremendous opportunity to get to know the cow families inside and out and my love of them never wavered. I wasn’t rich and I had no where to run cows at the time but I knew I needed Ladysport in my life. So I traded what I had readily available, sweat equity and heart, for 2 Ladysport embryos. I wanted to set them up for success, so they sat for a long while because I didn’t want anyone raising them but me. Obviously this was BC (before Cody) lol.
Eventually Cody and I were able to put them in NJW recips and calve them out at the Angus place we were working at in NE. I’ll never forget the call from Ned when they preg checked, he’s says you’re pretty lucky, 2 for 2 and both sexed as heifer calves.
Oh my Elation and Joy!!
They were perfect and I felt drawn to name them Gail.
A blending of lineages.
My grandmother’s name was Gail Masters, born in a storm near her family’s farm in IL. A writer, mathematician, teacher, mother, farmer, a Gaelic woman and a grandmother for too short a time.
I draw strength from her and the ancestors, as I know our cattle do the same. From ours and theirs, it’s all intertwined. That’s why we focus on the female, drawing from the maternal on both sides to power the next generation. When we do this with performance in mind, herd bulls with strong maternal are a natural creation.
Oshoto is a blending of it all; our heart, our loves, our program, beliefs and ethics.
He’s our history and our future.
Here’s a chance to add him to your future too!
